The camera doesn’t make the picture, the photographer does.
Every photojournalism professor I have ever had has said something to this effect and with that idea in mind I’m going to try posting some images I’ve taken on my iPhone. It is a camera I always have on me and I use it to make pictures of what I pass on the street. If you follow me on Instagram these will probably be familiar.
This picture was taken while on a walk yesterday next to a canal of Paris. I’m a big fan of this clown.
Shortly after arriving in France, Mélanie and I travelled with her parents in the North Western part of France, Brittany (or Bretagne). On one of our last days we travelled to the île de Batz, a beautiful little island (pictures to come, as well as pictures of more of Brittany). I took this shot on the ferry to the island back towards the town of Roscoff.
My final blog post from Mélanie and I’s epic road trip around the west of the US. We spent our last night in Boulder, CO before heading back to Kansas City. Arches National Park was our last National Park stop and although we were only in the park for less than 2 hours, it was a great final stop.
After the Grand Canyon we stopped at Horseshoe Bend, a place where the Colorado River creates an awe-inspiring bend.
From Zion we had a busy day of hitting 2 parks and covering a lot of miles as our trip was coming close to an end. Our first stop was at The Grand Canyon’s North Rim.
The first picture I took in France was that of a sign for the circus in town. Although I didn’t go, I loved the signs and the paintings on their vehicles, it seemed like something you expect from decades ago. Many, many more pictures still to come, including the last few of our US road trip, more from my first month in France and pictures of Iceland.
After an exhausting several days in San Francisco/Yosemite we flew through the desert and after a brief stop in Las Vegas (which primarily revolved around sleeping, eating and briefly losing roughly $5 at the casino) we headed to my favorite National Park from when I was a child, Zion. We arrived later than we had hoped but I still insisted we make the 4 hour, upstream hike, the Narrows. The sun was setting and at the end we were starting to get a little nervous we wouldn’t make it back to camp in daylight (we did). The hike was beautiful and I was very happy to show Mélanie one of my favorite places in the US.
I was a bit obsessed with these chairs during an incredibly long layover in New York before flying out to Iceland and then Paris.
